Phase 2. March 2022

  • A selection of Literary Excerpts in French will be sent to all teachers who have enrolled their class in the competition. There will be three different sets of excerpts per level of fluency in French – A, B & C
  • Teachers will conduct a session for their class where they will facilitate the students’  discovery of the Excerpts, such as their literary and grammatical composition

Phase 3. Pre-selection: March 2022

Students who are interested shall prepare and read aloud their chosen French Excerpt during a second session where all students will vote for their Class Representative. Though an Evaluation Table will be provided to all students for the same, its use is not mandatory and teachers are at liberty to employ another method of evaluation to select the Class Representative.

Phase 4. Local Round: March 2022

The Local Round will be held either in real time during an online or offline session, or asynchronously via video submissions from participants. In case of the latter, each Class Representative will send their teacher a video of them reading aloud their chosen text. This video1 shall serve as their official entry into the Local Round of ‘Read Out Loud’.

The same set of texts used in Phase 2 will be used by participants in Phases 3 and 4.

Selection of Winners of the Local Round: March 2022

The Local Committee will determine the winners of the Local Round of ‘Read Out Loud’. There will be one winner for each level of fluency in French, i.e. three winners in total for levels A, B and C.2

Announcement of the Names of Local Winners: 31 March 2022

The Winners of the Local Round will automatically qualify for the Finals of ‘Read Out Loud’.

Phase 5. Training: April 2022

With the help of Indian and French professionals, finalists will be guided in their preparation for the Finals. During the training sessions, participants will work on a fresh set of excerpts in French.

The complete schedule for the online training sessions will be provided at the end of March 2022.

Phase 6. Finals: 9 or 10 May 2022

The Finals will be held in real-time as a part of Festival du Livre Audio 2022. Finalists will read aloud LIVE, either during an online or offline session. They will be given the choice to select a text from the same set of excerpts that they will have worked on during the training sessions.

A National Committee will determine the three Winners of ‘Read Out Loud’. The names of the winners will be officially announced during a Prize Distribution Ceremony to be held in Delhi as a part of New Delhi World Book Fair 2022.

The format for the Finals will be confirmed in April 2022.

Footnotes:

A. In case of asynchronous mode for the Local Round, guidelines for participants regarding Video Submissions are as follows:

  • Participants must submit a video with a minimum resolution of 320 p. A video shot on a smartphone with a relatively good camera will be accepted. The main camera on the back generally gives better results than the front camera.
  • The video should be shot in landscape mode with the phone on its side.
  • The participant should be in a reasonably well-lit area with the light source facing them from the front. Light sources from the back must be avoided as this renders the final video dark.
  • The video should have as little background noise as possible. Traffic noises, people talking in the background, and fans are best avoided.
  • Participants must submit raw footage – i.e. the submission must be an unedited video clip without any cuts, filters, sound effects or graphics. Failure to do so by a participant will result in their immediate disqualification

B. Evaluation Criteria:

The Criteria against which participants will be evaluated, will be shared with them as they prepare for the Local Round and Finals of the Competition. Some of the criteria that judges will take into consideration include:

  • Physical Presence (Body Language & Poise)
  • Voice & Articulation
  • Dramatic Appropriateness
  • Evidence of Understanding
  • Overall Performance[divider]
