About Fête de la Musique:

In France, 21st June is not only the longest day of the year but is also the day of the Fête de la Musique (World Music Day). Created in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique has been adopted by countries all over the world to celebrate a shared love of music.

This year, as a part of the celebrations for Fête de la Musique, the French Network in India – French Embassy in India, the French Institute in India and the Alliance Françaises in India – in collaboration with Boxout.fm presents a web radio.

This webradio will feature a variety of audio shows such as interviews, podcasts, curated playlists and radio exchanges starting June 7th and ending June 21st on boxout.fm and fetedelamusique.in. The programme for Fête de la Musique 2021 also features online concerts and workshops taking place parallely on various e-platforms from June 19th to June 26th.

Indo-France La Taal Music (Online Concert)

From the banks of the Ganges to the banks of the Seine, Indian and French percussionists come together for a jam to celebrate World Music Day! In a powerful and bewitching dialogue, these musicians will bring their instruments to life with different rhythms and different styles. About the musicians:

Pascal Mabille:

Pascal Mabille, originally from the city of Poitiers (Vienne), is the director of LA BATUK, a Brazilian percussion group of around twenty members. Involved in the management of his group, Pascal also gives percussion lessons to children and conducts percussion workshops in social activity centers in his city. He is also director of the Leisure Center of Saint-Eloi Vivre Ensemble.

Karthik Mani:

Karthik Mani hails from a family of musicians – his father, TAS Mani is a renowned percussionist of “The Karnataka College of Percussion”, and his mother R.A. Ramamani is a very well reputed Carnatic vocalist.

Karthik has performed in prestigious festivals in India, China, Spain, Germany and the USA.

Muthu Kumar:

A disciple of the Tabla legends, Ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain, Muthu Kumar is one of the most sought after tabla players/ percussionists in Bangalore today.

He has travelled around the world and played on many prestigious stages. He has accompanied musicians from musical genres as varied as Jazz, Bhajan, Indian Classical, Ghazal and Fusion. He is the founder of ‘Mystik Vibes’ and ‘Layaa Productions’.

Sumana Chandrashekar:

Sumana Chandrashekar is a Carnatic vocalist, a Ghatam player and an independent music researcher. She has performed in India and abroad. She received a grant from the Sandbox Collective-Goethe Institut to create an experimental performance work called ‘Rendu Ghatam’ based on the story of the ghatam. With a keen interest in music education, she has been part of the core team that designed the music education component of ‘Kali-Kalisu’, an arts education teacher training initiative involving government school teachers across the state of Karnataka. She has conducted music and sound workshops for teacher-educators, trainee teachers and has presented papers on music education.

Ganesh Ashok Bojji:

Ganesh is a percussionist and teacher.He plays various percussion instruments such as Cajon and Darbuka and is also a classical Tasha player. He is a certified Drum Circle Facilitator (Village Music Circles).[divider]
