Good Luck Algeria is a Franco-Belgium comedy directed by Farid Bentoumi and released in 2016. Samir and Stéphane, two friends from Grenoble, make high-quality competitive cross-country skis, but their business is on the brink of bankruptcy the day the Swedish athlete who was to take part in the Olympic Games with skis of their brand decides to turn to another manufacturer. Stéphane then convinced Sam to resume cross-country skiing and to try to qualify for the Games under the colors of Algeria, his father’s country. A huge challenge at the cost of intensive training because Sam, who has been in his forties, is not as fit as in the past. The Algerian federation promises him a scholarship of 20 000 dollars for his sports expenses, which will give him the opportunity to return to Algeria and rediscover his roots and his family, he who does not even speak Arabic. The sporting challenge is immense, both physically and because the survival of the company depends on its success. His father, who did everything to make his children successful in France, believes it, and also prepares a nice gift to Sam: offer him all his olive trees to the bled so that he will one day become, like him, a proud active Algerian farmer of his ancestral values.
