Aditi Dubey | Winner of the 2016 Student Award : Trip to Paris

Aditi Dubey, the winner of the 2016 award,

talks about her trip to Paris…

“My 6 days in Paris were thus 6 days of exploring the city, 6 days of getting lost in its innumerable pretty streets, of taking the metro to places picked randomly off a map, of eating meals on the banks of the Seine – 6 days of pure  flânerie”

“For this trip I had no fixed plan- all I had was a list of places I wanted to visit, which consisted mostly of museums since I have a certain fondness for them.”

“The Père Lachaise Cemetery, though a cemetery, was quite beautiful, being home to many people of import like Oscar Wilde, Balzac and Frederic Chopin”

Learning French at Alliance Française has been a wonderful journey for me and it has given me so much over the course of several years, but by far the greatest thing I have received from it is the opportunity to take a one-week-trip to Paris. This trip, which I took in May 2017, was an incredible experience.

I stayed in Paris for 6 days, spending my nights at a very pleasant youth hostel in a very pleasant locality, and my days traipsing around the city, trying to soak it in. For this trip I had no fixed plan- all I had was a list of places I wanted to visit, which consisted mostly of museums since I have a certain fondness for them. Over the course of my trip, I visited le Musée de l’Orangerie,  le Musée d’Orsay, le Musée Rodin, and the Centre Georges Pompidou. Apart from museums, the only place I visited because I had planned to visit it (as I said, most of my trip was unplanned) was the Père Lachaise Cemetery which, though a cemetery, was quite beautiful, and being home to many people of import like Oscar Wilde, Balzac and Frederic Chopin, is frequently visited by tourists.
I visited just one place from the list each day, leaving me the rest of the day to just roam about and discover the city.

My 6 days in Paris were thus 6 days of exploring the city, 6 days of getting lost in its innumerable pretty streets, of taking the metro to places picked randomly off a map, of eating meals on the banks of the Seine – 6 days of pure  flânerie. This trip felt like a dream, and I am extremely grateful  to have had this opportunity. Paris was beautiful, and hopefully one day I will see it again.
